Senior Software Design Engineer - Windows
Job Description
We're not the type to brag – but we're trying to recruit you, so forgive us for a minute. Opscode is building the best cloud infrastructure automation platform on the planet. We're writing the rules of the cloud – rules the world's top engineers live, breathe and contribute to. We're some of the world's most well-known and respected software developers, systems architects and operations engineers, who have built, designed and operated web applications you're probably using right now.
We're seeking one uniquely talented Senior Software Design Engineer to bring Chef to the Windows platform, effectively changing the way configuration management on Windows is done. You must be an expert at both Windows and *nix systems, and very familiar with Windows systems administration.
You'll write high-volume web services, create and mine large datasets, and interact with the open source community. Most importantly, you'll be a leader – writing groundbreaking code that continually changes and influences the industry. Our projects are fun, challenging, and guaranteed to increase your brain size.
Still, work isn't just about work. That's why you'll have a competitive salary, equity, fantastic benefits, telecommuting, flextime, a downtown office on the bus line, and ridiculously down-to-earth co-workers who love beer, hate egos, and would rather sleep in a bed than an office chair any day.
Required Qualifications
- 5 years dynamic / scripting language programming, with background in C/C++ systems programming preferred.
- 2+ years experience in Systems Engineering / Administration with firm understanding of Windows architecture.
- Strong Computer Science fundamentals (data structures and algorithms).
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent experience) is highly recommended.
- Awesomeness trumps all other requirements.
Optional Qualifications
- Expertise with TCP/IP, load balancing, reverse-proxies, production web scaling.
- Experience running production infrastructures for high-availability, high-volume web services.
- Experience with Javascript programming a plus.
- Experience with distributed systems and programming language design also a plus.
- Deep Microsoft Windows development or operations expertise? You're lookin' better and better.
- Are you a core contributor or maintainer of a major open source project? (What's your GitHub profile?)
- Closet genius with StackOverflow or Quora? You're a dream come true.
