The Challenge

DreamHost, a global leader in web and cloud hosting services for entrepreneurs and developers, wanted to use the powerful, open source Ceph storage platform to deliver a cloud storage service. In addition, the company was also bringing to market an OpenStack-based cloud computing service. However, ensuring maximum reliability with minimal costs for customers meant finding an automation engine capable of bulletproofing its infrastructure with minimal management.

The Solution

DreamHost deployed Opscode Private Chef™ across its physical infrastructure, automating everything from resource configuration to deployment, ensuring maximum consistency for its new Ceph-powered DreamObjects cloud storage service and OpenStack-based DreamCompute service. DreamHost used Private Chef to manage the maximum amount of infrastructure with minimal resources, reducing potentially massive operating costs so the hosting leader can pass the savings on to customers worldwide.
